Luach Main Screen
 
   

From the Luach main screen you can:

- Set Luach Preferences by selecting Menu / Preferences
- Set Zmanim Preferences by selecting Menu / Zmanim Preferences
- View the Jewish Calendar Dialog by tapping the Luach Icon
- Specify city definitions by tapping on the Cities button
- Define User Events by tapping on the User Events button
- Insert / Delete Jewish dates, Holidays, Rosh Hodesh, and User Events into / from the Datebook by tapping on the Events button

 
 
Set Luach Preferences
 
   

From the Luach main screen, you need to open the Menu command bar:
The Menu on a Treo 600 (and other keyboard devices), tap the Menu button,
on other devices: touch the top left corner of the screen (where you see the time displayed), on older devices: tap the Menu silkscreen icon (next to the graffiti area).

Now select Preferences
- User Interface Language: check English / Hebrew (if you want Hebrew displayed) or English Only (if you want English displayed)

- Holidays: check either Israel or Diaspora (for Pesach & Sukkot for 8 days).

 
 
Set Zmanim Preferences
 
   

The halacha involved in determining zmanim is quite complicated and there are many different opinions regarding these calculations. Luach allows you to configure zmanim to your own personal observance. Hopefully the flexibility provided in the Zmanim Preferences will cover most if not all different methods for zmanim calculations.

Select Menu / Zmanim Preferences from the Luach main screen.

 
 
Enable/Disable Luach Integration
 
   

By checking the Luach Integration checkbox on the Luach main screen you can enable integration. Doing this allows you to have the Jewish Calendar dialog replace the Palm's standard Day Selector.

 
 
View the Jewish Calendar
 
 

 

Allows you to view the Jewish Calendar directly from within the Luach application (even if Luach Integration is disabled) by tapping on the Luach Icon on the Luach main screen.

From the Jewish Calendar Dialog you can:

See graphical indications of Jewish Holidays, Rosh Hodesh, and User Events.

See the Jewish Date of the selected date.

See the Jewish Holiday occurring on the selected date.

See all User Events occurring on the selected date by tapping on the UE button.

See Zmanim for the selected date by tapping on the Zmanim button.

See Shabbat / Chag information by tapping on the Shabbat/Chag button. The information includes: Weekly Torah portion, candle lighting times, end of Shabbat/Chag, and other special Shabbat information.

See the Counting of the Omer by tapping on the button displaying the Omer Count when relevant.

Display a Jewish Calendar View by tapping on the button displaying the Jewish Date.

 
 
Shabbat/Chag Info
 
   

The Shabbat or Chag candle lighting time and the time for the End of Shabbat/Chag is displayed on this screen. In addition, the "Parshat Hashavua" will be displayed. If the selected Shabbat is a special Shabbat, this will be displayed as well. The language of the "Parshat HaShavua" and special Shabbat text is determined by the User Interface Language setting.

The selected city can be changed from within this screen by tapping on the city name.

 
 
Zmanim
 
   

The Zmanim that are displayed are calculated based on the city which is currently selected, and the Zmanim preferences that have been set. See the Luach User's Guide for additional information about Zmanim.

Event Management Screen
 
   

Insert/Delete Luach events to/from the Date Book
Allows you to insert dates, holidays, Rosh Hodesh, and User Events from Luach into the Date Book by tapping on the Events button on the Luach main screen.

NOTE: Set the Luach Preferences first, to determine the language and Israel/Diaspora settings.

 
 
Set up the city definition for Zmanim calculations
 
   

Allows you to define 50 cities, and select which city will be used for the Zmanim calculations by tapping on the Cities button from the Luach main screen. A database containing definitions for 18 cities is provided with this version of Luach. In addition, a text file containing over 200 city definitions is included.

You can enter a maximum of 50 cities. See the Luach FAQ to find city co-ordinates and enter a new city.

Define User Events - Yahrzeit, Birthday, Anniversary
 
   

Allows you to define events based on their Jewish Date, and see the secular date on which they occur in any year by tapping on the User Events button on the Luach main screen.

See the Luach FAQ to define a Yahrzeit and insert it automatically into the Date Book.

 
 
KNOWN LIMITATIONS in Luach
 
Hacks
 
     

If you are using EVPlugBase as your "hack" manager, this may cause problems with Luach. We suggest you use X-Master, TealMaster, or HackMaster.

It is possible that there will be conflicts with certain HackMaster Hacks.
