Q: How can I fix American and Canadian cities to show the correct

|
A: The starting and ending dates for Daylight Savings

1 Tap the Luach icon, make sure
you are using Luach V1.55.
2 From the main Luach screen,
open the Menu command bar:
- on a Treo device (keyboard devices), tap the Menu button
- on other devices touch the top left corner
of the screen (where
you see the time displayed)
- on older devices, tap the Menu silkscreen icon (next to the graffiti
area).
3 Select Update DST Settings from the drop down menu.
4 Select an American or Canadian
city from the list.
5 Verify the city name, and
skip to the bottom part of the screen, where it shows Daylight
Savings Time.
6 Select USA.
You will see the USA law displayed underneath:

March

Q: What is Luach Integration?
|
A: When you check the Luach Integration checkbox
on the main Luach screen, this causes the Jewish Calendar to appear instead of the monthly calendar.
whenever a date is to be selected.
From the Date Book (or Calendar) tap the Go To button. Instead of seeing the standard
calendar, you see the Jewish Calendar.
If you have the DateBk5 application, see the FAQ.

Q: What is new in Luach Version 1.51?
|
A: Fixes a bug.

that use the Calendar application (the original Palm devices used the Datebook application).
When an older version of Luach was used on a Palm device

Events" into the Calendar, there might be problems that
would cause the device to crash or get stuck, or insert
the wrong Jewish date. This has now been fixed.

Q: How do I beam Luach to another organizer?
|
A: You can beam Luach to any Palm/Treo/Sony
device. The receiving organizer will be able to use Luach
for the 30 day trial period (unless they had it beforehand).
You will not transfer the User Events, and you will get the
basic city list. If you want the same User Events,
contact us.
1 Tap the Luach icon on your
organizer. Make sure the top line displays Luach V1.55.
2 If the receiving organizer
already has Luach on it, tap it and Uncheck Luach Integration.
Next, position the two organizers, so that the IR (Infra red) port
of the receiving organizer is within two feet of the sending organizer.
3 From the main Luach screen,
you need to open the Menu command bar:
- on a Treo device (keyboard devices), tap the Menu button
- on other devices touch the top left corner

The receiving organizer will sense the transmitted data, and will begin receiving it.
6
On the receiving organizer, when the transmission is completed,
you will be prompted with a screen that asks: Do you
want to accept Luach into Applications?
7
Tap Yes to store Luach on the receiving organizer.
Wait for the Status dialog box to indicate that the transfer is complete.
8 Tap the Luach icon. You should
have 30 days to use Luach before you need to register.
If it shows expired,

Q: Can Jerusalem's elevation be calculated
for Shabbat times?
|
A: This might not be perfect, but it will provide an easy way to see
if this provides more accurate shabbat times for Jerusalem.
You should only do this for Jerusalem, since it will
automatically use the elevation of Jerusalem. The elevation
of Jerusalem is assumed to be 825 meters.
In a future release, better support will be provided
for handling elevation based calculations. The only
calculations that will be affected by the elevation
are Candle Lighting, Shabbat Ends, and Sunset. All other
calculations will be made without taking the elevation
into account.
In order to take elevation into account for Jerusalem, put
an asterisk (*) in front of the word "Jerusalem"
in the "City" field on the City Definition form. Follow these
directions:
1
Tap the Luach icon. Tap the "Cities" button, select "Jerusalem" from the list, and tap the "Edit" button.
2 Place the cursor before
the letter "J".
3 Then use the numeric
pop-up keyboard to enter an asterisk. Tap the "Done"
button.
4
It will be displayed as "*Jerusalem, Israel".
Now tap "Save" button.

a line across the bottom of a day indicates that this day
is a Jewish holiday.
A red line (or dark line on non-color organizers) indicates a "Chag".
An orange line (or lighter line on non-color organizers) indicates a minor holiday or fast
day which is not a "Chag".
Many Jewish holidays start at night, and this is indicated by a half line.

Q: Why does the Shabbat ending time not match my Synagogue's listing?
|
A: You need to change the Shabbat Ends field
in the Zmanim Preferences screen.
1 Tap the Luach icon.
2 Tap the menu silk screen button
(bottom left corner of the screen, to the left of the Graffiti
area), OR touch the top left corner of the screen.
3 Select Zmanim Preferences from the Options menu.
4 The Shabbat Ends field is the last field on the form.
If it is set for SS + 8.50 Deg, then it means it is 8.5 degrees below the horizon, which
corresponds to "3 small stars visible" and is the default value used by Luach.
5 If your minhag is different,
change it to SS + XX.00 Minutes,
where XX is how many minutes after sunset.
For 42 minutes after sunset, enter: SS + 42.00 Min.
For 45 minutes after sunset, enter: SS + 45.00 Min.
For 72 minutes after sunset, enter: SS + 72.00 Min.
Make sure to change Deg to Min.
6 Tap the Save button.
Now select a Saturday on the Luach calendar on the Palm organizer, and check the
time for Shabbat Ends compared to your synagogue listing. It should not be more than 1 minute off.

Q: How come Luach shows the wrong Parsha?
|
A: If the second day of a Chag
is on a Shabbat in the diaspora, the Parsha read in Israel
is different than the one in the diaspora for several weeks
until it catches up with a double Parsha. You need to check
that the Holidays setting in the Luach Preferences screen
is set to match your location (Israel or Diaspora).
1 Tap the Luach icon.
2 If you see a Prefs
button, tap it and continue with Step 4.
3 Otherwise, touch the top left corner of the screen,
and select Preferences from the Options menu.
4 Check the desired language preference.
5 Next define the Holidays setting.
Check Diaspora for Pesach & Sukkot for 8 days.
Check Israel for Pesach & Sukkot for 7 days.
6 Tap the OK button.
Now the Parsha will match your location.

Q: When I enter the registration key for Luach,
I get an error message. What should I do?
|
A:The key that you were given is
for Luach. Make sure that you are entering the key in Luach
Version 1.55 (and not in a
different version of Luach or HebLite).
If the key does not match, you will see an X in the
left hand corner, and a message displayed on your Palm screen.
Send an email with the complete message. Pay attention
to upper or lower case letters, and punctuation. If you see
a bullet in the User Name, put a pound sign (#) in the email.
Also include the version number in the email. Tap the Register
Later or OK button, to return to the main screen.
The version number is displayed on the top line.

Q: Can Yom Yerushalayim (28 Iyar) occur on a Friday?
|
A:Yes, Yom Yerushalayim can occur
on a Friday. When it does, the religious observance remains
on Thursday night and Friday. However in Israel, some official
and military ceremonies take place the day before.
In versions of Luach prior to 1.21, when Yom Yerushalayim
fell on a Friday, Luach incorrectly moved it to
Thursday. This has been fixed in Luach version 1.21. It
is advised to upgrade to a newer version
to correct this problem.
