| Hebrew Lite: Manual
|
| |
|
Introduction
|
|
Hebrew Lite is a read-only version for the Hebrew. Hebrew Lite allows
all applications on the Palm organizer (built-in applications as
well as 3rd party applications) to handle Hebrew data. This lets
you read Hebrew documents, such as the tefillot, chumash, tehillim,
etc. You can also set the Luach (Jewish calendar) information to
be displayed in Hebrew.
This version of Hebrew Lite requires a registration key, but can
be used for a 30 day evaluation period without the registration
key. If the registration key has not been entered within the 30
day evaluation period, the Hebrew Lite software will be disabled.

| How does Hebrew Lite work? |
|
After you "Enable" Hebrew Lite, you press the "Done"
button. That is all you need to do here.
To read tefillot, chumash, tehillim, etc. You will need a
document (doc) reader. This is an application that allows
you to read documents that are formatted specially for the
Palm organizer. There are different document readers for the
Palm organizers. These are all 3rd party applications (they
do not come with the Palm device initially).
It is recommended that you use TealDoc from a company called
TealPoint. You can download a demo version of TealDoc.
If you scroll down to the "Documents in TealDoc Format" section,
you will see "Penticon" listed as one of the partners.
Scroll upwards, and you can view the TealDoc Online Manual.
Scroll upwards again and click on the DOWNLOAD button
(chose the version with the USA flag). You will need to fill
out a form, this gives you the demo version for free.
Install TealDoc to your Palm organizer.
Then you need to download the individual documents that you
want. Because you have installed Hebrew Lite and enabled it,
you will be able to read Hebrew documents using TealDoc.
See our Moadon (Clubhouse). These
documents can be downloaded for free. After you have downloaded
and installed the documents, do a Hotsync.
Tap the "TealDoc" icon on your Palm organizer.
Now you will see the list of documents on your organizer.
Tap the document you want to open.
If you have not registered TealDoc, you will get a "nag screen"
to register TealDoc (this is from TealPoint not us). Just
tap the screen and continue on.
On the bottom of the Palm organizer are four buttons with
the scroll button in the middle. Use the scroll button to
scroll down (and up) the document. Some texts use bookmarks
- rightmost icon.

| REGISTRATION |
|
Hebrew Lite can be used for a 30 day evaluation period before
it must be registered. At the end of the evaluation period
the software will stop functioning if it has not been registered.
In order to register Hebrew Lite, a "registration key"
must be obtained. The key is determined by the User Name associated
with the Palm organizer. The User Name is defined in the Palm
Desktop software during the installation process, and is transferred
to the Palm organizer when the first HotSync is performed.
If the Hebrew Lite software has not been registered, the
User Name can be viewed by running the "HebLite"
application, and tapping the "Register Now" button.
This will cause a dialog box which shows the User Name to
be displayed.
The User Name can also be viewed by tapping the HotSync icon
on the Palm organizer. The User Name is displayed in the top
right corner of the screen.
Once a "registration key" has been obtained, the
Hebrew Lite software can be registered by running the "HebLite"
application on the Palm organizer. If the software has not
been registered, the "Register Now" button will
be displayed. When you tap the "Register Now" button
a dialog box will be displayed that shows the User Name, and
has a field where the "registration key" can be
entered. The "registration key" is an eight character
string which contains a combination of digits (0 - 9) and
lower case letters (a - z). Once the "registration key"
has been entered, tap the "Register" button. If
you are not ready to register the software, or have not yet
obtained a valid "registration key", tap the "Cancel"
button. If the "registration key" you entered is
valid, a message will be displayed indicating that you have
successfully registered the software. Make sure that you have
recorded the "registration key" in a safe place
in case there is a need to re-register the software in the
future. If an invalid "registration key" was entered,
a message will be displayed indicating that the key is not
valid.
If you have never performed a HotSync on the Palm organizer,
the Palm organizer will not have a User Name associated with
it. If this is the case, a message will be displayed to indicate
this. After the first HotSync has been performed, the User
Name will be assigned on the Palm organizer. The Hebrew Lite
software can then be registered.
Whenever the Hebrew Lite application is run on the Palm organizer,
current registration information will be displayed on the
main form of the application. If the software has been registered,
this will be indicated, and the User Name will be displayed.
In this case the "Register Now" button will not
be displayed. If the software has not been registered this
will be indicated, and a message indicating the number of
days left before expiration will be displayed.
If the "HebLite" application is run after Hebrew
Lite has expired, and it has never been registered, Hebrew
Lite will automatically be disabled. Once the evaluation period
has expired, Hebrew Lite cannot be enabled until the software
has been registered.
From the main form of the "HebLite" application,
registration information can be viewed at any time by the
menu selection - Options / Registration. Selecting this menu
entry will allow you to register, or to view registration
information if you have already registered the software.

| DISABLING / DELETING /
REINSTALLING |
|
Disabling
In order to disable Hebrew Lite run the "HebLite"
program on the Palm organizer. If Hebrew Lite is enabled,
tap the "Disable" button.
Deleting
If Hebrew Lite has been registered on your Palm organizer,
the "registration key" will be deleted if you delete
the "HebLite" application. Before doing this, make
sure that you have recorded the "registration key"
in a safe place so that you can re-register after Hebrew Lite
has been reinstalled.
In order to delete Hebrew Lite from the Palm organizer, you
must first "Disable" it (as described above). Once
Hebrew Lite has been disabled, it can be deleted from the
Palm organizer.
In order to delete "Hebrew Lite", tap the "Applications"
button, and then select Menu / Delete. Select "HebLite"
in the list of applications, and tap the "Delete"
button, and confirm its deletion. This will delete all of
the files that were installed as part of Hebrew Lite.
If you try to delete Hebrew Lite without first "Disabling",
it will not allow you to delete it.
Reinstalling
In order to reinstall Hebrew Lite on the Palm organizer (or
install a newer version of the software), you must make sure
to "Disable" Hebrew Lite (as described above) before
installing the new software. Once Hebrew Lite has been "Disabled",
just follow the installation procedures. Do not delete the
Hebrew Lite software unless specifically instructed to do
so.

|
| COMPATIBILITY |
|
Hebrew Lite can be used on all current models of the Palm
Computing Platform running Palm OS 2.0 and higher, except
the Palm OS 5 devices.
|
|
| KNOWN LIMITATIONS |
|
Hebrew Lite does not support Hebrew text entry. There is
no Hebrew Keyboard and no Hebrew Graffiti.
Sorting based on the Hebrew aleph-bet is not supported.
The "Large Bold" font is not supported in Hebrew
Lite, and you will see "gibberish".
Editing of Hebrew texts (selecting, cutting, copying, pasting,
etc.) is not supported. Attempting to do this will usually
result in modifying the wrong data, and should not be done.
If you are using EVPlugBase as your "hack" manager, this may
cause problems with Hebrew Lite. We suggest you use X-Master,
TealMaster,
or HackMaster.
It is possible that there will be conflicts with certain HackMaster Hacks.
